Open Regedit by issuing "regedit" in Start-->Run
find and delete the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\Policies
(delete here means just highlight Policies and delete, not to delete the whole string/path)
if you can't manage to find "Policies" under the indicated path, which means this solution will not work for you :-), myself is a good example...I can't find "Policies"
Another work-around will be the following, please click on the below link

if you still can't get yourself sign-on, try using the windows messenger(not LIVE) that comes with windows, just go to Start-->Run then type msmsgs and login from there temporary. Try signing-in Windows LIVE messenger later
note: if you are in a company and can't sign-on successfully, it might be a reason that your administrator has already block msn port...in that case...try web messenger

我没用WINDOWS LIVE...觉得很差...
thanks for the input :-) but 哪里差?
觉得差咯...哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈
WINDOWS LIVE吃比较多MEMORY....
確實吃很多記憶碼
還有容易和其他的軟件無端端起衝突
和什么软件起冲突?
Normally clash with IE 6.0, microsoft office or Skype 3.0 so far
when that happens, i just close the windows live messenger instead of waiting to be normal back
btw....those who are using windows live msn will get 2Gb storage of their hotmail.
My hotmail still 1GB la, even I'm using Windows Live MSN...
Only UK and US users though
I changed my personal details to american one, oso cannot...
Nope, i don't think it will work this time
you have to change "the beta version interface"
then it will turn to be 2Gb storage
the page already said so

if you have any questions
perhaps you can send them enquiry.
never mind, i prefer Gmail...
